Poppies 2015: The Recap

$

Hello, Poptropicans. Welcome to the most fabulous night in Poptropica, maybe even awards, history. Tonight, your winners will be revealed for the first ever Poptropica awards ceremony, The Popp- oh, it’s already the day after the show? Okay.

poppies winners blake

Anyway, what’s popping, Poptropicans? Blake here, with no Poptropican news this time; more of a recap. As you can see by the title, today I’ll be recapping the winners from last night’s awards phenomenon, the Poppies. Let’s head straight into the awards, shall we? Please welcome, to present our first award, Thinknoodles and- wait, what do you MEAN none of our presenters were invited? I’m going to have to announce the winners BY MYSELF?!

Well, as you know, HPuterpop did also host a livestream announcing the winners, along with several other PHB authors, which you can view here.

But if you don’t want to sit through two hours of talking, don’t worry – Blake’s here to announce the winners right here in one post. For the first award, Best Creator, please welcome Blake!

*room full of snazzily-dressed people clap*

Thanks, it’s great to be here tonight with all of you.

A Creator is someone who puts everything into their work. Zeus, Captain Crawfish, they all work to keep Poptropica running. Tonight, we honor one of those Creators with the first Poppie ever. And the winner for Best Creator is… *opens envelope* Captain Crawfish! Your Poppie, along with everyone else’s, will be along to you sometime soon. For our next award, Best Dialogue, please welcome Blake!

Thank you, it’s nice to be invited. If anything shapes an Island into a classic, it’s the dialogue. And tonight, we determine the best dialogue of Poptropica. You guys have voted, and tonight the winner of Best Dialogue is… *opens envelope* “And you! You set me up! Man, I can’t stand anyone in this room.. well, except for me. Me, I like,” spoken by your player on Counterfeit Island!

Now, in typical awards shows, you don’t have time to announce every single category with a presenter and everything. So, to imitate these award shows, I will now rapid fire seven winners in one go. Seriously, there are like 18 of these.

  • The winner for Best Dressed NPC (Male) is Director D!
  • Poptropicans voted Aphrodite for the Best Dressed NPC (Female)!
  • Best Island, with PoptropiCon Island winning over Mystery Train by a single vote!
  • Golden Dragon was your pick for Best Poptropican Name!
  • The soundtrack Poptropicans everywhere voted into the winner’s circle for Best Soundtrack is the Monster Carnival Main Theme!
  • You guys spoke, and we listened. Ghost Story Island is your winner for Best Storyline!
  • It’s so good to be bad, and Zeus proves it by winning Best Villain!

Now, onto our next award, Best Fanart! The winner for this category is… MasterPinpey’s “Poptropican Villains” from Issue 23 of the Popcorn!

Only 7 more categories to go, and next up is Best Fansite! Now normally, you would all vote for us here at the PHB, but you chose Thinknoodles!

Now, on to Best PHB April Fool’s Prank! And the winner is the Omegon Takeover!

Now for another rapid fire! Categories 14-18 coming at you, and then I’ll see you back here for the final award, Best Author!

  • The votes are in, and Issue 23 was the fan-favorite issue of The Popcorn!
  • Readers like you voted Poptropican as the Best Wiki Article!
  • Don’t tell anyone, but I actually agree on this one. Galactic Hot Dogs Island was voted as the Worst Island!
  • Poptropicans decided on Big Belly as the Worst Poptropican name!
  • Everybody seems to hate many moments on Poptropica, but it was decided that 7 Islands becoming Members only was the worst!

And now, for the final award. The role of an Author is to be loved by many, and to be angered by few. To work and make the blog the best it can be, and to have fun doing it. Tonight, we honor the BEST of us seven with the Best Author award. And the winner is…

IT’S ME, EVERYONE! Just kidding, it’s actually Slanted Fish! You deserve it, Fishy!

Well, that’s all the awards we have to give out! See you next year for another round of… The Poppies!

Okay Timmy, now that that’s over, call Francisco to cut me out of this tuxedo.

*Sorry boss, but Francisco’s out for the day!*

So I have to stay in this for tonight? I already lost a bet that I’d win Best Author, and now I have to wear this dang princess outfit for a week longer!

*SORRY!*

Hey Poptropicans! Didn’t we look snazzy on that header? Well, the first ever Poptropica awards show, the Poppies, is now over, but we hope you had a blast at the red carpet! Thank you to everyone who made nominations and voted – you guys made an impact in the results for the event, and for that, you can enjoy this Poppies Participant paper-craft trophy created by Spotted Dragon! Here’s the link.

If you haven’t already, be sure to check out Blake’s PHB post for the announcing of the winners, which includes HPuterpop’s livestream with several others on the PHB staff. During the party, we also had several Multiverse rooms filled with impeccably dressed Poptropicans, and the PHC (our chat) was pretty lively in anticipation of the winner announcements. Check out the recap montage! :D

poppies 2015 recap

To give everyone a better chance at being able to make it to the celebrations, we hosted an after-party as well, about half a day after the first one. In addition to the Poppies, we also celebrated the PHB’s 7th anniversary. Happy birthday to the Poptropica Help Blog! The Multiverse rooms were filled with balloons, soda pop, and lots of lag. But at least we were having fun!

Poppies 2015 afterparty

Also, thank you to everyone who voted for me as Best Author; I’m deeply honored. :’) Spotted Dragon even sent me a foldable Poppie for my award, and it looks pretty Oscar-esque! <3

poppies trophy

Again, don’t forget to check out your Poppies Participant award at this link. If you print it out and make it, do send us a photo by email, blog, and/or leaving a comment on this post to let us know! (Also, if you can prove your Poptropican name is Golden Dragon, the winner of the Best Poptropican Name category, SD will personally send you your own Poppie.) ;)

If you enjoyed chatting on the PHC (Poptropica Help Chat; our official PHB chat hangout), remember that you can always come back to it any time (not just during official parties!) to hang out with other Poptropicans and have fun (within the boundaries of the chat rules listed on the page, of course). The link is xat.com/thephc, or you can access it by going to the “Chat” page from the navigation bar up top.

And no awards show would be complete without a few shout-outs: here’s to Jeff Heim, possibly the first Poptropica Creator to ever comment on the PHB – and it was in the spirit of the Poppies!

jeff heim comment

A shout-out also to Captain Crawfish, or shall I say The Award-Winning Captain Crawfish? Not only did he win the Best Creator category, he made a subtle reference to it in today’s Creators’ Blog post about the Daily Pop-In! We may like to nom crawfish here, but we love you too, Captain.

It’s been a great event, and we here at the PHB hope you enjoyed it as much as we did! Thanks especially to Slippery Raptor for the initial idea, for turning the annual PHB birthday celebrations into something more. Again, check out Blake’s post and HP’s livestream for a list of all the winners.

:star: Thanks for popping in, and have a stellar day! :star:

Poptropica: Make “rare costume” glitches obsolete!

$

0

Hi Gs,

I’m touching on something mildly controversial today, and some people will hate me for it – glitch trading. Poptropica’s trading community has become a monster. No, I don’t want your weird hat that looks like a football got shoved into an ostrich’s mouth.

RARES

Seriously, guys. What is cool about having weird looking costumes? What does that prove? I get messages every day asking me if I want to trade some of my “rare” items in my costume closet – which by the way, are uncommon, not deformed. For someone who knows how the game works internally, it’s sorta useless to try to trade these things with me.

(By the way, if you have any rare pepes to trade, that’s a whole nother ballgame. Contact me for more info ;) )

But for real, I don’t see why it’s such a big deal nowadays. However, that’s not what I’m here to talk about. Instead, this is my opinion on how to fix glitches – glitches like the Avatar Studio glitch, the SUI Costumizer glitch, and the eye expression glitch.

popcheats2015

I want to talk about a little game called Terraria, which if you didn’t know is one of my favorite games. They recently came out with an update involving 800 new items, new NPCs, better artwork, etc – but that’s beside the point. The point is, in the update before that, a game breaking glitch had come to the surface – hoiking. It was a way of transportation that exploited the game’s way of making sure players wouldn’t get stuck in blocks. It was the fastest way of travelling ingame – until the new update. They literally made it so minecarts could go even faster than hoiking, therefore making it obsolete.

hoiking2

This is what Poptropica needs to do – instead of having a glitchy reputation, have a smart one. Make a card that allows you to have different eye expressions, make costume trading possible, and make more things costumizable. Make glitches obsolete not by fixing them (some of which can’t be fixed without extensive redesign), but by making them unnecessary in comparison.

TAFN.

Hey Poptropicans! SFish here with the latest Poptropica happenings.

There’s currently an advertisement building for the Shaun the Sheep movie (in theaters August 5) on Main Streets. Inside, you can customize two fluffy sheep costumes, interact with other players like in common rooms, and grab two prizes: the Woolly Blow, a gun that adds a poof of sheep hair to the heads of characters you point at, and the Sheep Belch, which makes you belch comically.

sts1 sts4 sts7 sts5 sts6 sts2 sts3

(Thanks to Slippery Raptor for the ad pics!)

The Shaun the Sheep ad is on the Poptropica mobile app as well, but the prizes are a Timmy Follower (Timmy being a sheep character) and a sheep piggyback item. (Thanks to Anonymous for the tip!)

Meanwhile, the Creators haven’t posted many Daily Pop sneak peeks this month (slackers :P just kidding), but a more recent one gives us a peek at the name of the prison facility in the unnamed prison island: Pelican Rock – possibly modeled after the Pelican Bay State Prison in California.

Well, we’ve seen seaside jails on Ghost Story and Super Villain Island, and they haven’t worked out too well… wonder how this one will hold up. ;)

Supercell: Knock your block off. Blocked: See you between the bars. Pipe Dream: This corridor holds some utility for you.

Finally, a bit of post-Poppies news: check out the Poppie trophy Spotted Dragon sent to Jeff Heim, which he constructed (with a few scissor mishaps) and posted on social media! :D

(Plus, you can get your own Poppies Participant paper craft like this one on our event recap post!)

PHB Review: Arabian Nights Island

arabiannights

Hey Poptropicans! Slippery Raptor and Slanted Fish here.

Welcome to another PHB review! We last had Mystery of the Map (which was reviewed by HP & UiPE) but now, it’s time for Arabian Nights Island to be in the hot seat!

Warning: This review contains spoilers for the island.
If you need a walkthrough, check out the PHB’s Arabian Nights Island Guide — with pictures!

Episode 1: How Bazaar

ep1

Overall, this episode is pretty good. Let’s start with the soundtrack. The soundtrack was very fitting, giving off a feel for Arabian culture and the grandiosity of their civilization.

Meanwhile, the story focused on finding the Forty Thieves and putting a stop to their thievery. The hideout was done cleverly: it wasn’t the obvious cave, but something much more intriguing, with the “open sesame” scene at the end reminiscent of the beginning of Disney’s Aladdin.

Some of our favorite moments include hanging around the palace while the guards were gossiping and then surprising them with a smoke bomb, and watching one of the thieves struggle to steal the slow camel when trying to pull it into the hideout.

Moving onto the characters, they were creatively made to look like Arab people in the ancient times. In my opinion, the best one was the Sultan himself. The scenes, too, were really made well, especially the bazaar scene. This also presented a nice challenge— the cave maze and the trading. Smoke bombs added to the coolness factor, and the animations – the curling smoke effects which were used throughout the island in different colors – were pretty neat too.

Episode 2: Lair of Thieves

ep2

This episode was pretty cool! Let’s start with the scenes, which were amazing. From the cells to the sanctum, everything was nice and detailed, particularly the treasure room.

The quest itself was just the right amount of challenging. PHB author Samwow5 pointed out in his review of this episode that he felt like he was a spy. A spy indeed! Sneaking around the thieves sure made us feel stealthy and cool. The crafting part was also a creative touch to the gameplay.

Seeing the prisoner and later the Vizier disappear in a cloud of smoke for calling upon the wrong lamps made for a dark yet excellent plot. The Vizier’s sacrifice tugged at our heartstrings, and we wonder whether the unfortunate characters were really killed off (it certainly seems so, which might be a Poptropica first) – though thanks to the Sultan’s time reversal at the end of the third episode, the Vizier lived (though probably not as a high palace official).

The characters were great, too. The Master of Coin (who looked like Binary Bard), master thief, and Brutus had amazing designs and details. Last but definitely not least, the soundtrack was awesome. The spine-tingling feeling of the music made the episode even better.

Episode 3: Careful What You Wish For

ep3

Months before the release of this episode, PHB author Brave Tomato made a theory about the final episode — and she turned out to be right!

Scheherazade’s character had great depth, from being a simple merchant’s daughter to becoming a princess, which turned out pretty badly for her as her father, now a Sultan, barely paid her any attention. It didn’t end there: driven by her desire, she became the leader of the villainous Forty Thieves, and then, at the height of her criminal career, wished to be turned into a genie!

Out of the three episodes, this is our personal favorite. Why? Scenes were made very well and every inch of it is very detailed. The spot-the-difference game was pretty challenging. This episode also brought back the trading and crafting elements from the previous two episodes.

Samhal, too, was a comical character, with his mischievous wit coming into play at every corner. From making a woman who wished to be beautiful into a copy of himself, to turning the Master of Coin into a treasure chest because he wanted to hold all the wealth for himself, to having the recurring camel fall in love with a palace guard, it was hilarious to watch the story unfold.

The story was funny, but it also left behind a well-delivered cautionary tale against greed, especially as it wrapped up in the final, heartfelt scene with the Sultan and Scheherazade on the stone dais.

Plus, we loved the Aladdin references.

Thanks for reading our review of Arabian Nights Island! Overall, we’d rate it a 9.5/10.

Hey guys! Slip here.

The Daily-Pop In may give its last prize to all tomorrow, but wait, more sur-prizes are coming to Poptropica! (See what I did there?)

Poptropica has just announced via Twitter and the Timmy Failure Island tour page that every Thursday starting August 6th, if you visit Main Street of Timmy Failure Island (until it releases to members on September 17), you can pick up a new prize each week!

70cae-timmyfailure

The Creators didn’t tell us any more about the new prizes, but I guess we’ll have to wait for it! I believe it’ll be like the giveaway the Creators did for Virus Hunter Island in 2013.

UPDATE: Thanks to some special hax, HPuterpop managed to get the first prize before it was released! It’s a Señor Burrito Follower, and it’ll be free for everyone, coming later today. Yes, your own pet cat!

UPDATE UPDATE: This was not this week’s intended prize – but you CAN redeem this follower with the promo code BURRITO! (UPDATE AGAIN: It’s been removed from the inventory.)

timmycat

Speaking of Timmy Failure Island, Early Access for members to play the newest island begins on Thursday, September 17! They’ll have a head start on the case!

The Creators also released the trailer for Timmy Failure Island, plus a special video message from Stephan Pastis (the author of the Timmy Failure series!):

In other news, check out these recent Daily Pop sneak peeks involving Pelican Rock Prison, some license plates, city scenes, and some pipes:

Fresh Fish: Now we're on a roll. Save Ferries: Hang with the Bay City rollers. Top of the Heap: A silent sentinel keeps watch. Pipe Dream: This corridor holds some utility for you. On Your Plate: You've got a license to ill.

Plus, congrats to the PHB for reaching 19 million hits on this site today, and thanks for coming to us for Poptropica news, cheats, and more!

That’s all of the updates for now! Leave a comment telling us what you think!

Hey Poptropicans! Timmy Failure Island is now open – well, just Main Street and not yet in glorious technicolor – but if you talk to Timmy on the very left, he’ll tell you that if you enter the promo code TIMMY, you can get 50 credits! (That’s in addition to all the credits we’ve been getting from the Daily Pop-In, which, by the way, has totaled to 500 credits!)

timmy50

New prizes will be available from Timmy every Thursday up to the Early Access release of the island on September 17th for members. Anyway, let’s check out what we can see so far of Timmy Failure Island! You can click on the screenshots to enlarge them.

Most of the buildings are closed, with the exception of the Timmy Failure Store, which is displayed in full color. There’s a building that appears to be a bank, offices for rent, Maury’s Museum of World Records, and bowling lanes. Plus, you can watch two videos (you can also view them in Slip’s post below).

Hyper Gamer managed to reach this part of the office scaffolding and pick up a Screw Driver item. However, it disappears from the inventory when you leave the game.

Also, if you check your medallions in the Friends section, you’ll notice the Timmy Failure Island Medallion has been added at the far right!

PHB Review: Daily Pop-In

dailypopin review

For the past two weeks, Poptropicans were eagerly logging in every day for the Daily Pop-In, a giveaway event from the Creators where a new promo code would be given each day that could be entered in for a prize of some kind. Now that the final prize is out, here on the Poptropica Help Blog, we’ll be reviewing the event, which ran from July 27 to August 7, 2015. Let’s pop right in (pun intended)!

First there was the anticipation. The week before the giveaway, the event was announced on the Creators’ Blog, prompting excitement from players who were eager to get their hands on some freebies. From Captain Crawfish’s post, this was the initial pitch to us players:

The prize varies every day — it may be credits, or an item, or a costume. You’ll have to come back every day to get them all, because each code will only work for one day!

Credits! Items! Costumes! And, judging by the limited edition gold Pop Star costume featured on the promotional image from the Creators’ Blog, there was even the wild hope that they might be re-releasing retired items like it, especially considering the desire for rares among the Poptropica community.

PopIn_SocialMedia

Monday rolled around, and we rushed to redeem the first prize: 200 credits! Not bad! Unfortunately, that may have been the peak of the prizes, which we posted every day in this PHB post. Tuesday’s prize was 50 credits, which was an okay amount, though quite a decrease from the first day.

Wednesday’s prize was considered by many to be a joke: a measly 5 credits. It was such a disappointment that Poptropica even tweeted an apology, and a promise that it would get better, but things weren’t looking so great already.

Thursday’s prize was 75 credits, which could get you a costume from the Store, but four consecutive days of credits was pretty boring – and definitely not what people had hoped for when they read about getting “credits, or an item, or a costume.” Where were the non-credit prizes?

Friday’s prize finally offered something other than credits: a Fart Gun, which would blow a cloud of green smog and turn other characters green. Strange, but a welcome change, and the code to redeem it was up all weekend. (New codes only came up on the weekdays.)

Greenfartgun

Then came the second week of prizes, and we continued to hold out hope that perhaps this was the time for more cool items. But Monday’s prize was a repeat of Thursday’s: 75 credits.

Tuesday finally brought along a more interesting change of pace: a Twin Power that would make a clone of your character follow you around! While it was recycled from an old ad prize, the fact that it wasn’t credits and that we could keep it made it much more welcome than most of the previous week’s prizes. Perhaps there was hope for more cool items to come.

twinpower

Wednesday’s prize was the third repeat of the 75 credits prize. Seriously? While 75 credits is great on its own, the novelty had worn off on many Poptropicans, who were desperately hoping for something new. The discontent was growing in the comments section of the PHB post where we were announcing each day’s new code, among other places within the Poptropica community.

Thursday’s penultimate prize was 20 credits, which, while not as terrible as 5 credits, is still close to being useless. However, it is worth noting that when you add up all the credits awarded up to this point, it totals 500 credits, which is a pretty decent amount. After all those credits, they had to have something great for the final day – right?

Friday’s prize ended the event with 100 credits – yup, credits, even down to the last day, and only half of the amount of 200 they’d given out on the first day! Well, Poptropica had a chance to end with a bang, and they kind of blew it. So what went wrong in this Daily Pop-In event? Let me count the ways…

  • The promise of credits, items, and costumes at the beginning sounded amazing, but the actual giveaway didn’t live up to expectations. The number of days where credits were given out (eight out of ten) was very disproportional in comparison to the promise of items (of which we received two in a total of ten days), and there were absolutely no costumes given out.
  • The promotional image used a limited edition costume (the golden Pop Star), giving out the (false) hope that retired items might be re-released in this event. In fact, they could have done that – they’ve done so in the past – but they missed the opportunity, and again, expectations fell short.
  • The amount of credits awarded each day was not so well done. While we can give credit (heh) to the fact that they did add up over time, there are a number of issues with the way they were divided. Starting off with 200 worked as an attention grab, but to end with less than that (100) made the structure fall flat. There were three different days in which the amount was the same (75), which only added to the feelings of “not again!” from players. And who wants to log in just to receive a negligible amount (5 and 20)?
  • Credits on their own are not that useful to members, who can already access every Store item for free. The only use credits would serve to members is to buy items to keep being able to use after their membership expires, but I doubt Poptropica should be trying to give them a reason to let their membership expire in the first place.

Still, for all these shortcomings, Poptropica did give us free stuff – so it’s only right that we acknowledge the good points of the giveaway as well. Thanks, Creators. :)

  • We received a decent amount of credits: 600 in total. That’s enough to get you 8 Store costumes (at 75 credits apiece) or two gold card items (250 each) with another hundred to spare. So, if you haven’t had the chance to fully appreciate the Store’s offerings from lack of credits, now you do.
  • Giving us credits also meant that you could choose what you wanted as opposed to being given a prize that didn’t quite interest you.
  • We did receive two interesting new items that we can now keep: the Fart Gun and Twin Power.
  • There were no glitches to speak of in the whole process. Every day at 12 noon EST, without fail, you could log in to see the new code on the map and enter it to immediately receive your new prize, which wouldn’t disappear.
  • While credits may not have been that useful to members, they are pretty useful to non-members: a sign that the Creators are still catering to the non-paying population! Thanks, Poptropica!

And there’s more good news from Captain Crawfish on the Creators’ Blog – they’ll be doing more giveaways in the future! Hopefully, they’ll learn from their mistakes to make these events the best they can be. :D (There is the Timmy Failure weekly giveaway to look forward to!)

We’ve had an absolutely blast giving away so many free credits and items over the past two weeks. The Daily Pop-In Prize is over for now, but you can bet we’ll be doing more like this in the future!

(Okay, “so many items” might be a stretch, Captain. ;) )

Anyway, thanks for reading this PHB review on the first ever Poptropica Daily Pop-In event, and feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section! Stay popping, Poptropicans.

Hey Poptropicans, and welcome to another PHB special.

If you’ve played Ghost Story Island – which recently won the title of Best Storyline in an Island in our Poppies Awards Show – you may recall the hauntingly beautiful tune that was Fiona’s violin song. The music was so moving it even inspired an hour-long challenge of that song in a YouTube video by user Kaydorable1, with thousands of views:

And this was before islands were released with ambient music!

Over on a sheet music website called MuseScore, a user called iwasborninjuly has uploaded sheet music for the popular Poptropica melody, which you can view and listen to at this link.

fiona's songGive this song a try on your musical instrument! Or, if you don’t play one, you can still play this song perfectly on Poptropica by moving the bowstrings of your violin on Ghost Story Island. If you don’t already have it, check out our Ghost Story Island Guide, our written walkthrough with pictures.

Poptropica Mystery: Where did the native islanders go?

$

Hi Gs,

PopMysterySharktoothnatives

This mystery goes all the way back to the very 2nd Island – Shark Tooth Island. On it, you learn a few things about it’s history:

  • Professor Hammerhead discovered the island and it’s ruins years ago. This island was abandoned some time before it was re-inhabited.
  • The native islanders there found how to calm the shark using a special concoction.
  • The Medicine Man will only talk to Native Islanders.

This said, we have some things to consider – primarily about the Medicine Man. Is he a native islander? He wears a grass skirt and will only talk to native islanders, which leads to the presumption that he is… but if he still is there, then where are the rest of the native islanders? Read the rest of the post over on Slippery Raptor’s Blog!

So my Wikia profile on the Poptropica Wiki is my pride and joy – it tells my whole story organized beautifully and I just love it – but there’s a ‘fan art’ section there that’s pretty lacking. No, not my own fan art – artists’ fan art of me. And so for the next couple weeks, I’m going to have a little contest! Details are below.

hputerpopFanArtContest

  • messySinkerIt must contain yours truly in the costume to the right – it can contain anything or anyone else you choose.
  • It must be a square ratio – the winner gets their art as my profile picture!

Send in your art to andrewwilesinfo@gmail.com. The deadline for submissions is the 20th of August, so you’ve got plenty of time to perfect your craft!

The winner and two runner ups will get a special profile picture drawn by me! The winner’s drawing will be my profile picture for a good amount of time as well. :D

Let the doodles begin!

Final Theory

Before diving into our theory on how the quest will play out, we first need to know our characters… Timmy Failure is a young child that believes that he is a world class detective. He has a pet “business partner” polar bear named Total that somehow followed the scent of Timmy’s cat food back to his apartment. His parents are divorced, and he lives with his mom, who dates a “Bowling Turkey”. His best friend, who he claims to be an idiot, is named Rollo Tookus and is actually an over achieving student. Molly Moskins is a girl in Timmy’s class who has a crush on him and smells of tangerines. She also owns a cat named Senior Burrito. Finally, Corrina Corrina is Timmy’s arch nemesis (at least in his opinion).

Looking at the dialog, Senior Burrito (the cat) has stolen Timmy’s pants and is hiding in a vending machine. To get them out, you’ll need some loose change to activate the machine. The Bowling Turkey challenges you to a match of bowling, and when you win, he’ll give you the keys to his car. From there, we couldn’t really follow much more of the plot using the dialogue, but it looks to be quite a lengthy island.

Remember, Timmy Failure Island is going to be out for members on September 17th, so until then, share your theories in the comments below! :D

Total-ly New Timmy Failure Prize & Hub Island?

Heyyo Poptropicans, it’s Ultimate iPad Expert here with this week’s Timmy Failure promo prize. Simply go onto Timmy Failure Island, walk to the left and talk with Timmy and he’ll give you a Total Costume! (Total is the name of Timmy’s polar bear sidekick in the series ;) ) Check it out:

Total-Costume TotalCostumeOnPoptropica

Glad Poptropica is releasing a costume themed for the island instead of the credits! Pretty cool costume, as well. Plus, like how they’re slowly coloring in the island (it was pretty black-and-white last week!).

And of course, be sure to tune in next Thursday for the next Timmy Failure Island prize!

Now for some really interesting news. If you go onto Poptropica Friends and look in your Medallion list, you will see this below:

Hub-Island

Props to Slanted Fish for noticing this first. ;) I’m very curious as to what this mysterious island is. Slip suggested to me that it could be something like the Tutorial Island on the Poptropica App, which could be the case considering the name. The medallion is oddly placed between Survival Island (Episode 1) and Mythology Island in the list and I’m not completely sure why.

Being as curious as I am I tweeted out to the Creators. Haven’t had any reply yet, but I’ll be sure to update the post if they do.

UPDATE: Hub (Tutorial) Island has been released! Read all about it in my other post.

So, do you like this new Total costume? What do you think “Hub Island” is? Comment below.

Brand New Tutorial Island!

Heyyo Poptropicans, it’s Ultimate iPad Expert here with the details of a new island!

If you checked out today’s Timmy Failure code post, you may have read about a mysterious blank medallion entitled “Hub Island” spotted by our very own Slanted Fish. A little while after the post released, I decided to go check the medallion list again and saw an updated medallion!

HubIslandTutorialI immediately went to the map and spotted this new island…

HomeIsland

As it turns out, it’s almost exactly like the Tutorial Island on the Poptropica mobile app, and now it’s here on the online version! I dropped into the island to find myself with this explorer:

BridgeTutorial

I soon went exploring around the island to find multiple different buildings. The first building shown here is the Shop. If you decided to enter in, it brings you to the Poptropica Store.

ShopTutorial ArcadeTutorial NewYou

The second building shown here is the Arcade. Entering it brings you to the Pathfinders tribe common room, no matter which tribe you’re in.

The final building shown is the New You building. Inside, you can alter your appearance!

CustomizerNewYou NewYouInside

You can pull the lever (shown in the picture on the right) and the curtain on the top will drop down to allow you to customize with endless costumes. If you click the curtain (shown in the picture on the left) you can use a Colorizer, which allows you to change your skin and hair colors.

If you exit the New You building and go to the left, you visit the tutorial portion of the island. You will first see the platform below:

TutorialIsland1

With a little exploring you will come upon this woman missing her lucky wrench.

TutorialIsland2

Simply look up on a nearby tree to find the Wrench and give it to her.

TutorialIsland3

She then offers to show you how to customize (because it is a tutorial island). If you continue left into a new room, and then all the way to the left of that room, you’ll see the explorer once again. He’ll mention that he wants to give you something but he can’t seem to find it.

TutorialIsland4 TutorialIsland5

This, of course, is the medallion. You can then go around the two areas in search for each of the parts. There are eight in total and they’re pretty easy to spot – they’re the glowing yellow chunks lying around.

MedallionPiece1 MedallionPiece2 MedallionPiece3 MedallionPiece4 MedallionPiece5 MedallionPiece6 MedallionPiece7 MedallionPiece8

Once you find all of these pieces, return back to the original location of the explorer, and he’ll award you with the Tutorial Island Medallion (and 150 credits!).

TutorialMedallion1 TutorialMedallion2

So, that’s an overview of the new Tutorial Island! Since you get 150 credits for completing this island, be sure to complete the island for a little more change to spend in the Poptropica Store. Plus, I feel like if I was a new player, this island would be quite helpful. :D

So, what do you think about this tutorial island? Comment below!

Thoughts on Hub Island, new features & more vents!

Yellow! Slip here!

We’ll have a short review of the recent release of Tutorial / Hub / Home Island. :)

thoughtsontutorial

First of all, I’m really surprised with the update. The Creators never had any sneak peek or tweet about it and out of the blue, *poof* Hub/Tutorial/Home Island is now released online! :P

Second, this island is really great for beginners. The last time I remember logging in to Poptropica for the first time, I was lost; not knowing what to do. But if you’re a new player, you get to learn the basic steps of Poptropica through the Tutorial Island. The pilot even asks you if you’re a first-timer or an old pro! More to that, you’ll get to learn more about Poptropica— Poptropica Realms, multiverses and more. As what old people would say, “The kids today are so lucky! Not like us back in the days.” And there starts a long, boring flashback story.

Also, I’m really sorry for the people who just bought the Colorizer item card, which is now useless thanks to the new update. On the bright side, you can collect your 150 credits by completing Tutorial, Hub, Home, or whatever the island’s name is! (The official name is Hub Island, according to a Creator, Chris Barney, when asked by HPuterpop. But it says Tutorial on the medallion and Home on the map!)

Last but not the least, my only concern is the Arcade and the Shop in which I understand since Poptropica would take some time to make it like the one in the Poptropica app. The Arcade would look like a real arcade if it doesn’t redirect to the Pathfinders’ tribe room and the Shop would be better like the one in the app instead of redirecting to the Poptropica Store.

Overall, it’s a really great update I never expected. Kudos to the Poptropica Creators!

  ——

Next update, you may have noticed some new features while going from scene to scene. Poptropica has been changing the text on some of the pointers when you’re entering places, moving from scenes and riding the blimp. For example, instead of “go left” or “go right”, it says “exit”; instead of “travel”, it says “map”, and so on. (Thanks to R, The Black Bird for the tip and the picture!)

newfeat

  ——

Last but not the least, there has been a couple of Daily Pop Sneak Peeks with a common denominator and it’s a Poptropica cliche — vents. They seem to be for the Pelican Rock / Prison Island but we never know, maybe these sneak peeks are for Timmy Failure Island.

Venting: Just gotta get something off our shoulders. Small Potatoes: The winds of change are coming.

By the way, we recently added two brand new pages here on the PHB — the Hub Island Guide and the Fortune Cookie Quotes page!

HomeIsland FortuneCookie_poster

And that’s all of the updates! Have you received your Total Costume already?

Make sure to leave your thoughts in the comments down below!

Oh boy… ORANGE POPTROPICA?!

Hi Gs,

I made a discovery yesterday – something that may change everything. Actually, so much stuff has been going on lately that I’m sorta worried – school is starting soon!

I was searching through Amazon for ‘poptropica books’, as I do every once and a while. I’m super hopeful for the Mystery of the Map graphic novel! But instead, I found more of the ‘Poptropica English’ books – if you’re not aware of the first, it was called ‘Future Island‘ – I discovered it back in 2014.

odi1

Digging further, I zoomed in on one of the backs of the books, and went to the site it directed to – pearsonelt.com/ourdiscoveryisland. This redirects to an intro to ‘Our Discovery Island: Powered by Poptropica’. Once in the site, I was shocked – this was what Pearson was up to? Apparently, ‘Poptropica English’ was a part of an educational class made by Pearson!

odi2

But there’s more. Going to ourdiscoveryisland.com, I was shocked – orange Poptropica! Trying to create a new player, it seemed you need an access code to get in.

odi4

So, I went to Chris Barney, a dev of Poptropica who I am in contact with. He told me that Poptropica contributed (not sold) its engine to Pearson, and that more of these “Poptropica clones” may be showing up soon.

The wording on the site made it seem like that they had created actual islands based on the books. Watching a few videos (FROM 2011?!), it showed these islands (they look like real islands, too!). Here’s the thing, though: these characters had actual audio voice acting!

In addition to that gameplay video, there are also animations for Our Discovery Island on YouTube – likely related to the “Poptropica animations” we’ve heard about before.

I wasn’t completely convinced, until my friend Pixel got into an account! They do have voice acting – and it isn’t half bad! And let me remind you that this is pre-SUI (still unsure about my cash-cow theory?).

odi

There are a number of these islands, based on the books (so yes, one for Future Island too), each following the simplistic plot of the books.

Again, Chris said that there are more of these to come! I wonder what troubles this could cause…

Our Discovery Island is not easily accessible, and I’m probably going to have to buy the books to get in. However, it has the Poptropica name plastered all over it, and so it technically is official content. The Poptropica Wiki has got some work to do.

Also, it’s run by Pearson – could this be why Poptropica left?

PHB Sunday Special: Revisiting the Islands

Hey guys, my name is Brave Tomato, and I’m here with this little post to self-advertise tell you guys, in a quick little post, about my YouTube series, Revisiting the Islands.

Revisiting the Islands is about me, guided only by my memory of the island, revisiting past islands for nostalgia’s sake. Add in some occasional voice acting, some instances of snark, a few raging moments, and a few idiot moments, and there you go- Revisiting the Islands in a nutshell.

So far, I have uploaded videos for the first nine islands in the game: Early Poptropica – Astro-Knights, and I have Counterfeit Island and Reality TV Island finished recording and I’m planning to upload soon.

Below is my YouTube playlist of all my RtI series:

Besides RtI, I’ve also recorded my first impressions with new islands as I play through them for the first time. These are usually uploaded the same day that new island is released. So far, I’ve done first impressions of Spoiler Alert, and then Reign of Omegon – Careful What You Wish For.*

*Please note that with Spoiler Alert, I recorded it with my iPad, I forgot to record Galactic Hot Dogs and Lair of Thieves, and up until after Mystery of the Map, I had a really bad microphone from my laptop.

So, here is a link to my Youtube channel, and if you have a YouTube account, subscribe to me if you want! :)

This had been a self-advertisement report on a YouTube series I’ve been working on.

Things Poptropica Should Bring Back

PDbringback

Hey guys! Slippery here.

I have a new discussion! Let’s start?

Poptropica has brought a lot of new features and upgrades over the years but as time goes by, some of them are left forgotten and abandoned. That’s the topic I want to talk about: things that Poptropica should bring back.

treasurehunt

Treasure Hunts

Back in 2008, in honor of the release of Spy Island and Nabooti Island, Poptropica hid bonus items around Poptropica and if you’re lucky to find these items, you’ll receive free stuff! I just hope that they would bring these hunts back in the game.

land public countdown Back Lot countdown Zomberry countdown Countdown to Super Villain and 5th Birthday Countdown!

Countdowns

Back in the old days, Poptropica did countdowns before island releases. The most recent countdown was made in September 2014 (for Poptropica Land). I really appreciate countdowns because I will know the time when Poptropica will update. They deserve to be brought back, too.

wildwestpreview preview

Pre-Island Quests/Previews

One thing I really enjoyed in playing Poptropica back then was the pre-island quests. Back in 2010, Poptropica started these previews with the Nessie mini-game for Cryptids Island and was continued until the Nano-Combat Training for Virus Hunter Island. For me, the best pre-island preview was the Spook Central and Money Ladder. There are some of these that are still found in game: Shrink Shot and Prepare for Impact. These deserve to be brought back because it’s fun and gives away rare and great prizes to all.
